The Process
This tile impression positive mold was made of nuts, bolts, washers, and cogs. The actual materials aren't there since this is made of plaster. The original mold was made of a water-based clay that was shaped by the original materials, all of which were lightly hammered into the clay and extracted using needle-nose pliers. (The parts clung to the clay and pulled away some of it. Lubricating the parts next time is probably a better plan for the future.) I used 6 inch wood pieces to block in the clay mold and contain the plaster cast.

Once the plaster dried over the mold, I painted the plaster with acrylic paints. To replicate the aesthietics of the original materials, I used a metallic acrylic paint mixed with blue or orange paints.
