Moa Hunter Pure Manuka Honey originates from a 5,500 acre carbon farm called Waikene Station. Owned by Greg Summerton, this land was used as safe passage by his Māori ancestors when travelling between the west and east coasts of the South Island of New Zealand.
Hidden in the depths are caves which protect ancient drawings made by Greg’s ancestors. On this land now grows pure native forest, and thousands of Manuka bushes from which the Moa Hunter Pure Manuka Honey originates. We were tasked with creating a premium brand and packaging for Moa Hunter that would tell the amazing story of the product and its origins.
Cave painting photographed in the late 1940's by Theo Schoon. Our final logomark is a stylised interpretation of this image.
Each box is hand made, with Manuka oil brushed into the base, allowing for the aroma of the Manuka bushes to enhance the experience of opening the package. Each jar of honey is assembled by Greg and his family, with a hand-woven string and is then finished with a wax seal of the Moa Hunter logomark.
