David Sedaris: A Book Jacket Series

Challenge:
To create a book jacket series of three referencing an already existing novel from any time period, spanning from the Gutenberg to present day short stories. The full jackets convey three key categories: person, place and thing. These basic categories are turned complex with the use of research to clearly understand the plot, analysis the main characters, and figure out key symbols for the specific novel.

Solution:
A series for David Sedaris’ Me Talk Pretty One Day. The original book cover was designed in 2000. David Sedaris is known for his straightforward writing style that never hides the truth and is full of satire. Considering the book is non-fiction and about the author’s life experience or better yet, mishaps, showing his personality through the jackets is a highly important aspect. The overall style and language of the jackets emphasize Sedaris’ personality using a handmade, cut/paste, and bold illustrative technique.
