Pasaraya - Typeface Design

Pasaraya
Type Design
Pasaraya is a sharp high contrast display typeface inspired by Malaysian hypermarket marker lettering. Accentuating the oddities and the contrast of the writing style, Pasaraya introduces a fresh take on marker-based typefaces. Pasaraya is not intended to serve as replacement for handwritten hypermarket signage, but pays homage to the craft and letterforms.

This typeface and its promotional materials are designed and produced for my final year graduation project in 2018.

Pasaraya is still in development.
Typeface Promotional Items
Some typeface promotional items were also designed to showcase the typeface in various settings. Imagine: how would you sell typography in a supermarket?

A typographical tote bag inside a can alludes the image of a humble can of peanuts. After all, we have to be a bit nuts to venture into type design!
A vacuum packed specimen booklet—freshness guaranteed! This A6 booklet folds out to an A3 poster.
An ode to the chewing gum packs I would sneak into my mom's groceries at the cashier. This pack contains a mini type specimen sheet, and shiny stickers with Malaysian slang on them. Do not chew!
Exhibition Booth
The typeface and promotional items were showcased in my final year exhibition, Odd of Sight, Odd of Mind 2018.
