ESPN Broadcast Package / Role: Director
I led a team at Imaginary Forces that, in collaboration with ESPN, created the broadcast package for their coverage of the 2016 Euro Cup. Inspired by the artistic history of the host country of France, we designed and animated nearly 200 individual elements for the month-long tournament. Using diverse mediums such as paint, pencil sketches, cartography, and industrial revolution mechanization, we created a single unified language to brand the Euro Cup coverage.

This package won a PromaxBDA Gold, a Motion Award, and was nominated for a Sports Emmy.
Behind the Scenes Montage
Design Process
These style frames and storyboards, by Theo Daley, Maggie Tsao, and Henry Chang, are only a small selection of the frames put together for this project, but still give a sense of the evolution of the mediums and aesthetics we were working with.
Animation
Animating this package was a huge undertaking, and involved a team of people working for months to pull it off. I personally took on the challenge of R&Ding the dimensional paint strokes. Starting with practical paint textures, I mapped them onto geometry in Cinema 4D, creating a easily controllable, fully procedural rig that makes the paint feel like it is being smeared rather than just masked on.
