Data Crunch

AdAge Creativity Issue.
Cannes cover competition 2018.

Over the last year or so, we’ve seen voices once unheard or silent coming to the fore to have tremendous impact on the world around them. We’ve seen it with #MeToo, the Women’s March and now students rising up to protest against gun violence. Inspired by this momentum, we’d like to see how you can put your creativity to good work too, and we challenge you to create an image that shows how creativity can change the world

The Brief: Create a powerful image that inspires others to take action for an important cause.

Creative rationale: We live in a world inundated with information. Knowledge is at our fingertips and an infinite stream of inspiration is a click away. What we choose to do with this information is up to us. Everything we need to create a positive change in the world is at our disposal. What we put in our bodies is just as important as what we choose to put in our minds. Staying nourished physically and mentally is an intrinsic part of putting our new found knowledge to good use. We’re data hungry and everyday is a new meal.

The solution: We created a strikingly simple image, putting a spin on the common breakfast bowl. Using data chips stuck onto circuit boards, the most extensively used piece of tech, we created the visual illusion of vanilla and chocolate wafer cereal. The visual is commenting on the role that data plays in our lives in 2018. What we choose to do with our data is up to us!

With numerous plates to use, the final cover image was composited using the best visual elements and then retouched.

Character limit entry rationale:
The first thing we do when we wake up is Data Crunch. This crunching defines our perceptions of the world and shapes it accordingly. Let’s serve up the right kind of data. #MakeDataCount

P.S We didn't win or even get a finalist but we did learn a thing or two about creativity
