The theme I have chosen for my thesis project was a music hub located near the center of Debrecen, Hungary. My project is connected to the already existing „musical infrastructure” as well as the soon to-be-built filharmonic centre.

The popular „Rocksuli” („School of Rock”) has been open for almost three decades in Debrecen, with hundreds of students. My music hub serves not only as a suiting building for the school (that has changed its place nine times in the last twenty years) but alsoworks as a meeting point and incubator for aspiring musicians.

My concept was based around the operation of the concert hall located in the center. This main cube is surrounded with the smaller units of the bar, coat check and restrooms. The functions of the upper floors – studios, classrooms, etc. – are also located in similar units, some of them connected to glass-roofed lightwells, or small atrium-like open spaces. The stairs and the elevator are all located in a single space connecting all the floors, with a glass roof letting in   natural light.

The glass facades are covered with a poligonal surface made of tensioned semi-transparent metal mesh.
