My thesis work is an animal shelter on the outskirts of Debrecen. The existing institution is overcrowded, in spite of all the hard work done by employees and volunteers. I think shelters should not only provide sufficient life quality for animals, but also educate the general public about the responsibilities of having a pet.
The main concept was to give dogs as much private space as possible. Instead of creating lines of connected kennels, I designed a structure of separated living spaces with a few kennels and a small shared court.
The main building is also divided into blocks under a large roof, separating the dogs from the road, while the kennel-structure remains extendable.
