Client:
Instuto de Recerca Biomédica de Barcelona (IRB) is organizing a scientific Symposium next year in Barcelona.
Title: The Clock of Life
Subtitle: Cellular and Molecular processes of development, ageing and disease.
The symposium will focus on scientific research on subjects such as Ageing, Lifespan, Growth, and degenerative diseases (such as Alzheimer). The main idea they want to explore is how a living organism deals with the passage of time, in his natural life course, from the point of view of its cells, molecules and genes.
Requirements:
- create a logo that will be present in flyers, posters, a web page, etc;
- the logo should be related to the title and themes of the symposium;
- the logo should be related to the logo of the IRB.
Concept:
I used a cell shaped clock, using the logo of IRB as ground for the clock. I kept the same colors too, the IRB logo is of course inspired to the Guel Park in Barcelona by Antoni Gaudì. The same architect who designed Casa Milà, where the symposium will be hosted.
The bottom of the clock is inspired by another famous Spanish artist well known for his surrealist work, Salvador Dali "melted clocks",
The hands are inspired to the hands of La torre del Reloy in Barcelona. I found very cool the hands of the clock tower of Sant Pau Hospital too, I have used them in a few drafts.
The curved lines in the clock are a symbol of cyclical nature of time. Every part of the cell is suffering overlays colors that make every piece look different as the process of growth, ageing and disease.
