한계에 갇혀 있기를 거부하고 그것을 넘으려는 모습, 알고 있는 것에 만족하지 않고 새로운 것을 찾아나가는 시도처럼 모험은 언제나 움직임을 보인다. 우리는 이 움직임을 ‘두산인문극장 2016: 모험’ 그래픽 아이덴티티의 메인 컨셉으로 삼았다.
움직임이라는 추상적인 의미를 평면에 구현되는 시각 장치로 치환하기 위해서 우리는 움직인 것의 흔적이라는 컨셉을 걸었다. 인쇄매체 처럼 정지되어있는 매체에서 움직임을 나타내기 위한 여러가지 시각 효과들이 있을 수 있다. 하지만 우리는 이 프로젝트에서는 무엇인가가 움직여 나간 흔적이 만들어내는 궤적이 가장 합리적이며 시각적으로 새로운 방법이 된다고 판단했다.

위와 같은 판단하에 우리는 ‘두산인문극장 2016: 모험’의 주요 정보들을 이용해 브러쉬 툴을 제작했다. 이 브러쉬 툴을 활용해 매체 위에 움직여 나간 궤적을 그리면 주요 정보들이 흔적을 남기며 그대로 ‘두산인문극장 2016: 모험’의 그래픽 아이덴티티가 된다. 때문에 이 그래픽 아이덴티티는 항상 같은 모습으로 유지되는 것이 아니라 각 매체의 크기나 비율에 따라 유동적으로 형태를 바꾸게 된다. 이는 본 시안의 컨셉인 움직임을 더욱 강하게 나타내며 이러한 장치들이 모여 ‘두산인문극장 2016: 모험’의 그래픽 아이덴티티는 완결된다.
New Imagination on the Extended Reality was the title of the Doosan Humanities Theater Series 2016, the concept of which was aimed at depicting ‘Mo-heom’ (which means adventure in Korean) and a sense of movement. For us, “movement” refers to an attitude that refuses to stick within any limitations and provides an attempt to find new ways through which to feel satisfied with what we already know. Furthermore, a trace refers to something that has moved and we therefore felt it would be a rational and effective visual concept for the event.
From this decision, we created a brush tool comprised of major pieces of event information. The traces left behind after this brush tool was moved across the surface naturally allowed for the traces of information to not remain in a fixed form, but rather change based on different mediums to show various aspects of “movement.” We felt that this could be the perfect way to present the concept of "Mo-heom."

‘두산인문극장’은 인간과 자연에 대한 과학적, 인문학적, 예술적 상상력이 만나는 자리다. 2013년 ‘빅 히스토리: 빅뱅에서 빅데이터까지’를 시작으로 2014년 ‘불신시대’, 2015년 ‘예외(例外)’를 지나 올해는 ‘두산인문극장 2016: 모험’으로 관객들을 만난다. 3월부터 6월까지 3개월에 걸쳐 사회학과 인문학 등 각 분야의 강연자를 초청하며 주제와 연결된 강연, 공연, 전시, 영화상영을 진행한다.
Doosan Humanities Theater Series is an intersecting site of scientific, humanistic and artistic imagination and discourses on mankind and nature. Starting with Big History: From Big Bang to Big Data in 2013 and followed by The Age of Distrust in 2014 and Exception, Mutation, or Abnormality on the Borders in 2015, New Imagination on the Extended Territory is the theme for this year’s Doosan Humanities Theater in 2016. For three months from March to June, scholars in different academic fields including sociology and humanities will be invited to present lectures, performances, film screenings and an exhibition associated with the subject.
모험

모험은 두렵다. 인간이 한 대부분의 항해는 해안이 보이는 연안에서 이루어졌다. 아무것도 없는 바다에 나가는 것이 두려웠기 때문이다. 하지만 큰 바다로 나간 그들이 발견한 것이 세상을 바꿨고, 지적 성취를 이룬 인류 앞에도 여전히 가야 할 길이 많이 남아 있다. 모험의 과정에서 수반될 수도 있는 파괴적인 과정과 이면의 아픔도 알고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 여전히 모험에 가슴이 뛰는 이유는 그곳으로 몸을 던지지 않으면 현실에 갇힐 수밖에 없다는 것이 분명해지기 때문이다. 로봇·인공지능과 함께 살아야 하는 세상이 눈앞에 있고, 네트워크 위에 떠오른 사이버 공간도 여전히 탐험과 모험의 대상이다. 길이 없다면 새로운 길을 내야 한다. 끊임없이 이어지는 인간의 모험, 그 과정에서 얻은 경험을 바탕으로 현실의 돌파구를 열 수 있는 열쇠를 찾고자 한다.
Adventure is frightening. Most journeys into the sea have been taken along the coast where the shoreline is visible, because venturing out into the nothingness of the ocean is terrifying. However, some headed out into the unknown, and what they discovered changed the world. A lot still lies ahead of mankind and their intellectual achievements. There may await destructive process and sufferings that accompany adventure; despite so, adventure still excites us because it’s becoming ever more evident that not taking leaps inevitably confines us in reality. Based on endless human adventure and experiences in the process, we hope to find the key to break through this reality.
