A metaphor for the way we create, stealing information and making something beautiful in often less than beautiful ways.
My work follows the life cycle of a fly, using light to illustrate the transfer of life from one thing to the next. I wanted to show how we take information, drawing parallels with the larva “taking” from its host and the way creatives develop through exposure to other peoples work.

The puppets are covered in textures of stolen work, which were printed onto Paper Mache book pages. The textures are meant to be layered and chaotic, making it hard to see where each individual component comes from. This is meant to be a reference to our own influences, how the person we are today is the sum total of many things, some of which we can’t trace back to.

Using 3D paper models and scanned textures of appropriated material, I built insects and created an animation of light.
