Idolise - A Fan's Collection

A Fan's Collection
The Design Museum of London set me the task of creating an exhibition, around the theme of collections. This was to take place at the Design Museum Tank on the bank of The River Thames. The brief allowed me to choose a collection of my choice and in respond creating a exhibit proposal and also that of a catalogue showing the collection in more depth. My concept and outcomes is as follows:

Everyone of us at some point in our lives has idolised some one.Whether it be a musician, a designer or TV personality.
We have all idolised these people in our own unique way. Whether it be buying an album, religiously watching their television programme or buying a ticket to see them in the flesh. No matter how you idolise someone we are left with a collection of memories from that period and also, (not always) a collection of artefacts.

‘Idolise’ shows a unique collection of memories, stories, journeys and artefacts from one person’s idolisation to their hero.
However this journey is like no other. It tells the story of Alex Connock and his dedication to his Idol Rick Parfitt of Status Quo fame.

From having a poster of his hero on the wall to owning the clothing his hero is wearing in that image. From collecting an autograph to becoming his idol’s personal security guard for the day. ‘Idolise’ shows the lengths of dedication that a fan will go to for their idol and how in return a collection of memories and artefacts are made.
