Yunnan 1/1 is a unique piece of the LANDCARPET rug series. It is based on an aerial image of a section of extensive rice paddies in Yunnan/China. The very mountainous Yuanyang region has been shaped into stepped terraces over countless generations by local farmers and is one of the most impressive and famous sites in Southern China. The rug is held in very colorful tones to mimic the effect a sunset has on the rice fields. As rice is harvested more than once a year the different fields vary between, mud, water, fresh and mature rice which is reflected in the differnt greens, blues and reds used in the rug.
