»Social Design« Grafikmagazin 04.23

How can design bring about positive social change and promote inclusion and social justice? In this issue, we deal with »social design« and show projects that make life better through design – for everyone. In addition, we are continuing our focus on AI, we talked to one of the founders of Canva about the future of the design profession and in our Showroom section we are presenting the best of contemporary European Design.

In this issue, we continue our focus on »Artificial Intelligence« and spoke to self-organized Hamburg creatives who want to find answers to the question of how AI can
influence the design profession and how to put it to good use. The HAWK University of Applied Sciences has set up its own portal to support students with AI, and with »Meere des Mondes« we are presenting a project that shows how AI can be used to create things that would not otherwise exist.

In our »Design & Research« section, we also look at how AI is changing the design profession. In an interview, one of the founders of Canva told us how he sees the future and opportunities for designers. We take a look back with »Helvetia«, a remarkable book project that explores Switzerland's colonial history. We show how picture books can help to overcome trauma and with »Plitsch Platsch« we trace water and its importance in Stuttgart.

And as always there’s lots more to be discovered, type design and articles on design & research and some brilliant book and magazine projects.

The cover

In this issue we are pleased to finally be able to present a photographic motive. It comes from the »Leaving One for Another« series by the Turkish photo artist Olgaç Bozalp, who deals with experiences of migration in his pictures.

The cover was printed on Olin Millesime, a high-quality Bristol board, which is easy on the hands thanks to its ultra-satin surface and lets photographs come into their own. The newest member of the Olin family comes from Antalis. The cover was implemented using offset printing by F&W Medien.
