Lacrosse Is the Fastest Growing College Sport

Based in Chatham, New Jersey, Chuck Grom has filled the role of managing director at Gordon Haskett Research Advisors in New York City since 2017. He possesses over 20 years of experience as a financial analyst. In addition to his professional responsibilities, Chuck Grom serves as a member of his town’s local lacrosse program.

A 2022 study found that lacrosse is America’s fastest growing college sport, in addition to being one of the fastest growing sports overall in both the United States and the United Kingdom. The National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) study analyzed data from the preceding 15 years and determined that, collectively, men’s and women’s lacrosse represent the nation’s most rapidly expanding sport.

The study was not limited to college participation and went on to describe major investments made in American lacrosse at every level of play, from national programs down to town leagues. While lacrosse has always been relatively popular on America’s east coast, the last decade has seen the sport sweep across the rest of the nation. Participation across all age groups increased by nearly 33 percent from 2008 to 2018.

That said, the NCAA emphasized growth at the collegiate level. In 2019 alone, the NCAA reported 30 new lacrosse programs.
