Semi-automated patch clamp system

Building on our successful collaboration with the QPatch II system, Lockenwitz worked with Sophion BioScience to develop the industrial design for a new patch clamp system. The QPatch Compact combines the flexibility of manual patch clamping with the consistency of automated patch clamp, addressing an underexposed area of the market.

Focus was directed at achieving a robust enclosure which addressed users needs for easy, maintenance-free operation, with users being able to perform simple servicing tasks themselves. The cabinet is compact - important in crowded lab environments - and the work environment is ergonomic, offering comfortable work positions and horizontal surfaces to place labware within reach.

The main work surface is a corian sheet, milled and moulded, which is robust and easy to clean, and serves as a lid for accessing user-serviceable components.
Overall, the design reinforces the brand's new design DNA, featuring an extruded base shape with rounded major edges, clean, precise lines and surfaces, and a welcoming, lab-friendly colour scheme.
