I’ve had the pleasure of designing all Finn Coren covers since we met on this project back in 1996. Most of his output consists of interpretations of great poets. What makes Finn stand out among other musicians doing this, is his ability to make the texts sound like they were made to measure his music, like song lyrics.
Apart from the first single - “The Fly” - all covers are based around the original “illuminated scripts” by William Blake. But I set out to frame them in a personal way, creating an atmosphere through a collage consisting of old books, paint, and other physical objects. Jo Michael's portrait photos of Finn were a great inspiration for the design direction, and I ended up incorporating textures from his photos into the designs.
