Honourable mention for the Container Vacation House compeition in Sydney, Bondi Beach.
Competition organised by [AC-CA] International Architectural Competition.

The competition brief ask for an innovative solution for a new vacation beach house in the famour Bondi Beach, Sydney, using shipping cargo containers.

LAYOUT
The proposal is made from 16 x 6x2.4m standard cargo containers organised in a continuous zig-zag “Y” shape arrangement, with inserts of prefab timber structures, shaped around the left ove spaces created from the "Y" shape layout.
The typical dimension constraint of a shipping container house are overcomed by combining cargos side by side, extending to create a comfortable 6x4.8m space.

FLEXIBILITY
The house respond to the seasonal changes by adjusting the timber structure housing the living spaces by sliding along the floor track. During summer times, the living room modules expands to reveal 3 central sandy courtyards, allowing maximum natural cross ventilation, with the blurring of indoor outdoor boundary, inviting the occupants to interact with the outside environment. In the winter condition, the module retracts, covering the courtyard, minimising the area of facade exposed to the elements and hence heat lost.

LIFESTYLE
This is a house designed for the residents to enjoy the beach lifestyle and encourages freedom and independence. All the bedrooms are arranged apart to allow greater freedom to the occupants without disrupting others, with direct access to outside ground and shower access directly from outside to assist with the beach lifestyle.
