The successful auction of a unique LANDCARPET of Hong Kong in November 2012 drew the attention of a curator of M+ which is the soon to be built art museum in Hong Kong. I was contacted and a similar piece for their permanent design collection was commissioned. Given that this museum will not only host one or Asia's largest art collections (partly donated by Uli Sigg, the leading collector of contemporary Asian Art) M+ will also be one of the largest museums in Asia by exhibition area and so I chose to make this rug the largest so far.

While the previous HK rug focused  on Victoria harbor and Hong Kong island this version extends beyond that area and also shows the container harbor west of Kowloon. As the museum will be placed at the heart of West Kowloon Cultural District this spot marks the center of my LANDCARPET, literally. Intricatly cut as always this rug's main challenge was not the level of detail we tried to achieve for the immediate area surrounding the future museum but the representation of the multi-colored freight containers that are neatly stacked in the freight harbor zone.

LANDCARPET is a modern area rug series, inspired by nature and farmed landscapes. It shows the world from straight above, as we usually see it only out of the window of a plane.

Based on satellite images LANDCARPET is a captured fascinating aerial view to touch. The stylized fields are of different height and let each rug appear like a miniaturized landscape transforming a rug into a piece of nature in your apartment.

As each culture deals with landscape and farming in a different way LANDCARPET comes in various series, each of them representing a different continent or country. Europe is held in warm green and brown colors, USA comes in very fresh green colors, Africa in a series of earthen tones and Netherlands as a colorful array of flower fields. Italy, a unique piece added purple and yellow tones showing Tuscany in fall.
