Umo est un artiste né autour de 1977 en Papouasie Nouvelle Guinée.
En 1984, un ethnologue visitant sa région lui fait découvrir Arnold & Willy, puis la culture Hip Hop et le street art au travers d'un film, Beat Street. C'est une grosse claque. Il débute aussitôt le dessin et le graff. Dès lors, il ne cesse de recouvrir des coquillages ainsi que sa forêt natale de graffitis. Ces actes de vandalisme lui vaudront plusieurs condamnations. En 1995, il est definitivement banni de sa tribu pour avoir tagué le tronc d'Eywa l'arbre sacré. Exilé, il vit désormais en France entre Paris et Tours où il continue de développer son art ...

Umo is an artist born around 1977 in Papua New Guinea.
In 1984, an anthropologist visiting his region he discovered the famous 80's tv show, Diff'rent Strokes, Hip Hop culture and street art through a film Beat Street. This is a big slap. He immediately starts drawing and make graffitis. Therefore, it continues to cover shells and his native forest graffiti. These acts of vandalism earned him several convictions. In 1995, he was definitely banished from his tribe to have tagged the trunk of the sacred tree Eywa. Exiled, he now lives in France between Tours and Paris where he continued to develop his art ...
