Tyler Way (T.WAY) is an artist & designer currently residing in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

His day job is as a men's footwear designer for SEBAGO -- a premium, internationally-distributed lifestyle brand whose hand-crafted heritage dates back to 1946. He is also the Co-Founder, Creative Director, and Executive Director of the nonprofit organization, [HAS HEART], whose mission is to utilize the mediums of art, design, and fashion to benefit, inspire, and enrich U.S. veterans. Way also finds time to work on tedious pointillism acrylic artwork for very select clientele which have included LeBron James, Phil Knight, and others.

Way started his creative career in 2005 as a freshman in college where he started custom-designing sneakers from his dorm room. After receiving a summer position with the Detroit Pistons coaching youth basketball clinics, Way held onto his employee ID badge... just in case. Months later once the NBA season began, he would use said badge to "pretend" that he worked there still, casually and nervously sneaking his way back into the player tunnels. As players like Tayshaun Prince, Rip Hamilton, and Chauncey Billups left their Pistons' locker room, Way would introduce himself and his custom-design sneaker service. Eventually after returning game after game after game after game, Prince brought in a pair of Nike AF1's for Way to customize. Upon completing those, Hamilton saw them and immediately brought-in three pairs of Way to do, and then another three, and then a shooting sleeve to wear in the NBA All-Star 3-Point Contest, and more. Eventually, Way created custom-sneakers for Prince, Hamilton, Worldwide Wes, Chris Paul's charity auction, LeBron James, and more.

From there, Way continued to build on to his creative resume as he developed a pointillism style with acrylics on canvas. His series of paintings were sold to Jason Richardson, Mike Posner, Worldwide Wes, Lynn Merritt, and Phil Knight. Mr. Knight enjoyed his pointillism technique so much that he commissioned him to do a wedding portrait of LeBron James and his wife in 2014.

In 2010, Way was introduced to entrepreneur Michael Hyacinthe, an 8-year U.S. Navy veteran. During their discussions over coffee, the two realized the disconnect between the military and creative worlds. Not long after their meeting, Hyacinthe met a severely-wounded U.S. Marine along with his full-time nurse by his side. Paralyzed from the neck down and unable to speak, the 20-something year old Marine shared his passion for t-shirts through a specialty alphanumeric communication code that had to be translated by his nurse. Hyacinthe asked the Marine if he would like to design his own shirt, and after seeing the larger-than-life grin immediately come across the Marine’s face, Hyacinthe called Way and asked if he’d be willing to co-design a t-shirt with the help of this inspiring young wounded veteran.

Immediately, the power of that unique collaboration sparked the desire to work with more veterans through what would develop into the HERO[series], an annual design project that pairs a veteran with an artist partner with the shared mission to tell that veteran's story.

Way manages the registered nonprofit organization, [HAS HEART], as its Executive Director and Creative Director. Through this organization, he has worked on numerous projects and in multiple roles including everything from apparel and product designer, project manager, brand developer, retail store designer, art director, exhibit curator, and more.

In 2012, Way was hired as a freelance footwear designer for SEBAGO. Eventually, that role transitioned into a full-time employee for the Wolverine Worldwide-owned company as their men's designer. Through this position, Way has been responsible for conceptualizing product collections, presenting seasonal design ideas, working with factories in Asia, Portugal, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic, displaying seasonal collections to international partners, and more.
