Taehee is an Artist currently studying in painting department at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence.
I am seduced, enamored, trapped, or traumatized by the past, both personal and universal. From a nameless cave painter to a long lost friend, I desire to reintroduce these fragmented past in allegorical format.
My paintings and prints use the forms, gestures, textures, and sense of touch as narrative tools to talk about narrative structure. In my paintings, I compose soliloquy with symbols in forms of imagery, colors and lights. My work hijacks mythology in high and low pop culture to generate meaning anew. I make art inspired by the sublime moments in context of comic book covers, the sentiment of bedtime story, the theatricality in archaeology (reconfiguring the past) , and the mysticism in quotidian life.
I’m interested in visual language of Hannah Höch, Japanese Utagawa school painters, Francisco Goya, Odilon Redon, and Nicole Eisenman. Read Less
