My name is Tonderai Stephen Muunganirwa born in 1983 in Harare, Zimbabwe. I have always enjoyed getting involved in the arts from literature, music, and drama, dance, painting and drawing from a tender age. I studied Creative Art and Design at Chinhoyi University of Technology, Zimbabwe.

I moved to Johannesburg, South Africa in 2008. I worked as a motion graphics artist at a company called Clearwater UX, not the mall for 5 years. This is where the seed for my appreciation for photography and retouching was planted. In early 2014 I joined VIACOM INTERNATIONAL MEDIA NETWORKS, and worked as an on air producer for MTV BASE AFRICA and MTV SOUTH AFRICA.

I love photography and feel good taking photos. I am also passionate about retouching the images it’s like giving that shoe a shine after you have added polish to the shoe (taking photos). When I have the camera in my hand I feel like I am on stage all over again in a play, every second counts. I love to capture that moment in time like the impressionist used to. My camera of choice is a Canon but would love to work on a Hasselblad one day. I primarily retouch in Adobe Photoshop CC.

I am inspired by how movies are shot and graded; I also aspire to bring that cinematic look and feel to my photos. I am also a huge fun of vintage fashion photography. I enjoy playing FIFA on PS4 because it improves my hand mind coordination so it helps with my response time when I am shooting action or sports photography. I also like reading loads of novels it helps develop my imagination. Music oooh music “if music be the food of life play on” like Shakespeare would say, music brings that’s energy it helps with the drive when the spirits are low on set and when I am retouching photographs.

TONMUUN pronounced tornmoon the moon generally represents dreams and imagination so it's like dreams and imagination unleash. am still scripting my movie called uptown vs downtown. TON: tonderai MUUN: muunganirwa.

My name is Tonderai Stephen Muunganirwa. I fell in love with photos since day one. In history class high school I used to love analyzing World War photos, a photography tells a thousand words by just freezing a moment in time stopping the word for an second and recording it for future generation to see and remember. I remember in high school still life photos helped me in studying source of light textures, proportion, and focal points in my observation drawing. I could master perspective drawing by referencing photos that were taken a long time ago. So photography played a major part of my life before I even photographed my first photo.

Photography is important because it a huge element in design. Whether you are designing a magazine cover, brochures, posters, cd covers, book covers, advertising. Magazines won’t be that much successful in terms of sales without photography because you need to give the reader an idea of what that it is you are talking about by showing great pictures. Yes you could illustrate or paint the images like what they used to do before the advent of photography but it can’t really capture that realism those true colors, it makes you want to have that mouth watering meal that’s on the menu.

I enjoy being behind the camera collaborating with the team plus the model making sure we get the money shots that will jaw break the viewer when they first set their eyes upon it. My early works were mostly model portfolios and street wear fashion label look books. I always carry around my camera when I travel so for example when I visited Cape Town in 2012 for the Design Indaba, it was a nice experience for me so whenever I look at the pictures I feel nostalgic.

I am largely inspired by motion picture cinematic styles derived from motion picture cinematography. I watch lots of Fashion Television especially the top photo shoots show, there they showcase international photographers so I get to see the global trends in photography. I also go through sites like 500px.com and behance.net just also to check out photographer large bank of portfolios. This gives me a chance to compare my work and inspires me to do even greater shoots especially when you get positive feedback from fellow photographers from across the world.

I enjoy retouching pictures, adding that finesse and flare to the pictures to add that magic touch. Retouching sets the tone or mood for the picture; it’s like the photograph’s visual language. You can easily set a joyful tone or dark and scary tone if you are doing a Halloween piece just by grading the pictures right. I mostly use Adobe Photoshop camera raw to do my initial tweets. If I need to do more I will take it to Adobe Light-room or Apple Aperture. Retouching is like adding that shine to a shoe after a polish more or less the same for a car at a car wash.
