Known for being an ‘old soul with a taste for contemporary’, Monica Braga dos Santos is a Creative Director and Product Designer from Porto, Portugal.

She believes objects now, more than ever, must generate emotions while promoting experiences. For more than 17 years, she has devoted herself to the development and management of creative projects, over which she has created an extensive network and developed deep, hands-on understanding of all the phases product development entails.

Inspired by History and its expression in arts and culture, by the simplicity and timelessness of Mid-Century Modern style and by the Japanese “sensitivity to things”, Monica creates delicate, authentic and sensorial designs which have a life beyond their functional character.

The way she sees it, time is the epitome of luxury, and each object represents a moment in time. This is why all her projects stem from a thorough, critical research and analysis of the history, social evolution and potential of each product typology, so that they can adapt to new social, cultural and contemporary experiences.

Monicas’ passion for the creative areas manifested itself early on, which naturally led her to enrol in the Product Design Course at ESAD College of Art and Design in Matosinhos, Portugal.
Since 2000, she has developed concepts and homeware products for luxury and retail brands such as Munna, Vista Alegre and Zara Home.
Besides her ability to adapt to diverse creative challenges, Monica has expert knowledge of the international market and a strong practical background in project management, from planning to implementation. Core areas: Tabletop; Decorative accessories; Upholstery Furniture.

In 2012 Monica was awarded 1st prize at the The International Architecture and Design Awards, in the ‘Seating’ category with the ‘Becomes Me’ armchair designed for Munna. In 2017, the ‘Ada’ sofa, designed for Sentta, was distinguished by the Archiproducts Design Selection, at Maison et Objet in Paris. Continuously featured in the International press, her work can be found in Wallpaper, Elle Deco China, Casa Vogue Brazil, Attitude and Intramuros, among others. Read Less
