Flak Towers in Vienna- they are not only giant, massive structures, symbolizing the control of totalitarian system. Moreover they have been seen as a relic of YESTERDAY, which overwhelms the modern city of TODAY. These monuments indicate annihilation, violence, offence, intimidation – the main control instruments of the past.
Values of the past should not dominate the basic and most important forces that affect life of the future cities. The obsolescent values of the past, such as stability of social structures, which have been commemorated in the massive architecture of the six towers, are going to be replaced with the flowing and evolving.
What do they mean in reference to the present?
People have always been trying to reach the UTOPIA, by various means, but the search path to the visionary world always continues. The festival’s goal is to increase awareness among society, of the fact that choosing wrong means such as money or violence, makes us forget about the prime assumption. Unintentionally, improper values start RULING THE WORLD.
The main objective of the project is to draw the attention to deeper issues by using art. The commercial form of the festival with its main tower for mass events would gather the people from all over the world. That would also provide financial benefits for the city, stimulate social and cultural life. For the duration of the festival, five remaining towers act as temporary satellites - venues for exhibitions. The seventh tower in the city centre is a symbolic image of searching for timeless values and visionary world, represented by a beam of light coming out of the ground. In this way, commercial nature induces reflection on the future, evolving values, which proves that not only power can RULE THE WORLD. Read Less
