My design life at Precedent has taught me many things, each project being a treasure trove of wisdom, gifting me with little nuggets of information. Dana Petroleum was no exception.
My first corporate logo, and arguably the piece of work in which I take the most pride, is the Dana logo mark. Whilst I can't take all the credit (never has the input and creative direction from the fellow design team at Precedent been more appreciated) I do like to think I can stake a claim in the creation of this marl. After days of iterations and sketches, modelling and more sketches, more iterations and sketches and then some more iterations we came to the device shown here, the Dana rock.
What is the Dana Rock? It represents 'One Dana', a multifaceted company with a strong grounding and bold character.
Having a mark that wasn't just flat was a big part of the design, even though in printed materials it will be 2 dimensional. The mark needed a strong presence about it and needed to have a sense of depth, not just for visual impact but to also communicate the impact that Dana truly have.
The 3D rock is something that can thrive in a 'living' space, be it a short sting for a video, or a sculpture in a lobby as the first thing people see when they enter a Dana building.
