These wooden tour posters were made for House Industries' Ken Barber and Ben Kiel's type design and lettering class at MICA. The setup was to design a modular typeface and make pieces that only utilized the type we created and its modules.
I chose two different albums/tours from the Baltimore native band Animal Collective: Strawberry Jam, and Merryweather Post Pavillion. The project began with the idea of having these wooden pieces be the negative from which paper posters can be mass-produced by pressing the paper on them and running chalk over them.
The type itself is composed of 7 repeating parts, or modules. Some of these modules were also used to create the patterns on the posters themselves.
