SOS Assistant - A Wearable Device to Aid Cardiac Arrest Victims

/ medical design, brand repositioning, innovation design

The SOS Assistant revolutionises the way to restore a normal heart rhythm during heat-related Out-Of-Hospital Cardiac Arrests (OHCA) involving older adults in 10 to 15 years’ time.

Climate change is causing more frequent heatwaves which also increases the risk of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCAs). Heatwaves were shown to be associated with a 14% increase in the risk of OHCAs. In the UK alone, it is estimated that over the next 10 to 15 years, an extreme heatwave is likely to occur every other year. Current studies show that only less than 1 in 10 OHCA victims survive. Vulnerable members of our society, such as the elderly, are the most at risk. Public-access defibrillators are currently only used in less than 5% of OHCA cases. The wearable SOS Assistant aids bystanders and improves OHCA victims’ chance of survival.
