OysterFob

/ user-centred design, product design

Due to Londoners' Oyster card usage and storing concerns, this project intends to redesign the public transport smartcard user experience to facilitate tapping in and out as well as to ensure convenient storage, especially focusing on highly mobile and active 18 to 25-year-old student commuters within the geographical region of Greater London.

The user-led redesign resulted in changing the current Oyster card into a new product, called OysterFob.

Quick and intuitive tapping in and out is facilitated by the OysterFob's retractable system. The product is always at hand as it can be attached to belt loops, handbags, backpacks and more.

The fob’s dimensions are compact but still big enough to be user-friendly and easy to grip and use. The outer housing material is mostly made of old recycled and remanufactured Oyster cards, meaning that the fob has the same texture, feel and colour as the familiar Oyster card.

The OysterFob is able to indicate the current balance though informing LED colours and sound. It also reminds the user to top up via smartphone notifications.
