Booklet - exploring the value of underground music

Simona Ioana Rotariu is a young professional committed to a journey of pursuing her passion and interests in human nature - cultures, education and arts.

Simona studied Psychology in Sibiu (RO), Intercultural Studies in Aarhus (DK), is currently living in Brussels (BG) and is on a continuous path of searching and discovering the hidden gems of subcultures.
exploring the value of underground music scene from aarhus is a project aimed to present and explain to the academics the impact of techno music culture, through analyzing literature reviews and exploring the current situation in Aarhus.

The underlying paper was written as an exam project for the Cultural Industries course within the School of Communication and Culture of Aarhus University.
The investigation attempts to assess how creative industries fit in the economic system and sinks deeper in identifying the intrinsic value of the underground culture and how it contributes to the general well-being of the society.

The exploration of value is focused on the city of Aarhus, yet it also brings comparative aspects from other cities.
Given that the initial feedback on the paper proved to be overly positive, our next move was to create a reader-friendly booklet based on Simona's project, with the objective of being shared with people involved, attracted or just curious in how the underground scene brings value to societies.
The final product has been packaged as a 44-page soft-cover booklet with square 148x148mm pages, stylized with geometric typography and white lowercase text on rich black background.

The booklet also features a personal selection of photos capturing moments from public and private techno events from Aarhus and Sibiu, and is available in both print and digital formats.
Techno-space, with all the characteristics described throughout the article, is leading towards affective citizenship - inter-citizen emotional relationships produced by scientific, industrial and technological forces and engagements with cultural differences.

As debated throughout the paper, underground is not an opposition, but an expression of a genuine culture, a community that brings significant value to its consumers.
Client quote: Looks lovely! Simple yet eye-catching, mysterious yet transparent - exactly how I imagined it!
