King Street Gallery Website

King Street Gallery need no introduction in the Australian art scene. For over 30 years the gallery has impeccably supported and represented established and emerging Australian artists. Some of the more notable including Elisabeth Cummings, Idris Murphy, Jenny Sages and Wendy Sharpe. They came to us in July 2012 with a mission to create Australia’s most ambitious gallery web site. It needed to be simple and easy to navigate but impact was essential. Like stepping into their space on William street which we’re very familiar with, you never know what you’re going to be confronted with and that’s precisely what we aimed to create with the site. A content and context driven experience.

As one of the most prolific galleries in Australia, they have many stories to tell but the site should always be making one obvious statement: the current exhibition. They had a very good understanding of the changing nature in which people make decisions so we built the bones of the site from the ground up to ensure that it was responsive to any sized mobile device and ready for one of the most exciting online stores in Australian art. It also had to be shop ready and mobile device friendly. The gallery sends exhibition invitations via email and stats show us that more than half of these were viewed on mobiles and tablets.

We didn’t just want a beautiful and functional site for King Street Gallery; we wanted an infrastructure that would promote better shows and result in more traffic both on the web and in the gallery. To have been asked to work on their new website was an incredible honor and we’re delighted to share the results.
