Erinnerte Wirklichkeiten Book

Erinnerte Wirklichkeiten | Remembered Realities

We are our memories. We are the quantity of personal experiences that breathe life into us and let each human write his or her own biography. Significant moments come along with learned skills. Factual knowledge enriches us as much as intuitive perception. We share details of our life story with other people by reconstructing what actually happened – without knowing that we are not telling the truth as memories are ever-changing and dynamic constructs.

For my bachelor thesis I examined this topic by a special case study: My memories of my homeland. My family emigrated from Russia to Germany when I was five years old. 19 years later – in 2015 I will return for the first time and compare my memories with the real world. The result is a book in which I collected the amount of my memories in the form of texts and drawings and then compared them using various methods. My personal highlight was the trip to my home country - and the fact that some memories are completely different from reality.
