SALESIAN CHURCH AND ORATORY / Petržalka / south town

The diploma thesis in Faculty of architecture in Bratislava deals with the design of a Salesian pastoral center in a new residential and administrative district in the south of Petržalka towards the austrian village - Kittsee. The basic location is in the zone at the new branches of the Danube, which are designed for  the controllability of the water flow from the center of Bratislava. The aim of the project is to process the knowledge gained so far about civic buildings, urbanism and sacred architecture.

The dominant feature of the building is a large church building extending into the inner block of the salesian center and into the exterior square on the waterfront.

The uniqueness of the area is emphasized in the exterior areas through its urban connection -  including nature, waterfront, main communication lines and through multifunctional zones located in the building. Typologically, the prototype of the building is inspired by a similar complex in Torino's Valdocco, built in the 19th century.

In addition to views of the water areas of the Danube and nature, the building also offers space for both the public and for private meditation, including commercially rentable zones. With its functional content, the Salesian Pastoral Center with church contributes to the enrichment of the cultural-relaxation and educational dimension not only of the young inhabitants of this new part of Bratislava.
