The Cost of Our Conveniences, Architekton

Our firm was invited to design an exhibit for the Smithsonian's Green Revolutions. The purpose of Green Revolutions is for local communities to create educational and informative exhibits on sustainable concepts.

Our exhibit communicated the staggering amount of coal used to power a single incandescent light bulb for one year.  Visual impact was achieved via a stark white living room environment which contrasted with the filth of a 740 pound box of coal, and the red cord connecting the coal with the light source.  A recycled "newspaper" takeaway provided visitors with tools and tips they can use to reduce their carbon footprint in their own homes.
