Building D at Central Arizona College provides dining and lounge facilities to the Aravaipa campus and surrounding community.   Scope of the project entailed bringing the 40-year-old facility up to current building and ADA standards with modernized kitchen and serving areas.   Existing restrooms were relocated, creating better visual connection to the exterior, and an opportunity for shaded outdoor dining.

The once enclosed dining room was transformed to a bright, open, and welcoming space as the north and south block infill walls were replaced with glass operable wall systems, thereby daylighting the space and further blending interior and exterior by allowing visual and physical expansion to the north and south.

Additional storage space has also been provided to accommodate tables and chairs for large group events in order to increase the flexibility of the dining room.  The accordion partition that once separated the food service area from the main dining room was replaced with sliding glass doors thus offering visual connection while maintaining flexibility.  The interior finishes were upgraded to provide a fresh experience for both dining and socializing.  This includes an updated color scheme, new flooring, and a modernized ceiling.  This serves as a backdrop for new contemporary furnishings, modern light fixtures, and current finish materials at the service line and on selected walls.  Total project area including addition: 6,500s.f.
