In March, Patriots fans witnessed the end of a 19-year era as longtime quarterback Tom Brady left the team in free agency. With Brady’s exit to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Patriots owner Robert Kraft and others in the team’s orbit have expressed their appreciation for the departing quarterback.

Drafted by New England in 2000, Brady began making his name in his second year, when he replaced injured quarterback Drew Bledsoe. The then-24-year-old went on to lead the Patriots to the franchise’s first Super Bowl, where he earned MVP honors in a victory over the St. Louis Rams. He helmed two more Super Bowl-winning teams in the next three years, adding another Super Bowl MVP along the way.

The following years saw Brady consistently guide New England to winning records. Except in the 2008 season that he missed almost entirely due to injury, the Patriots finished first in their division and made the playoffs every year. He won his first NFL MVP in the season before his injury, a year that culminated in a Super Bowl loss then earned a second league MVP in his second year back with the team.

Brady’s title success resumed in 2014 when he was awarded the MVP for his performance in the Patriots’ fourth Super Bowl victory. Despite being 39 at the start of the 2016 season, the quarterback proceeded to turn in a three-year run from 2016 to 2018 that saw three Super Bowl appearances, two Super Bowl wins, and both an NFL and a Super Bowl MVP.

In his final season in New England, Brady repeated his perennial feat of leading the team to both a division championship and a playoff appearance. He finishes his career as a Patriot having established himself as among the best players in NFL history.
