Red Sox Pitcher Participating in MLB The Show Players

Northfield Mount Hermon School alumnus James "Jim" Ahern is a former Aegis Capital managing director who, since 2010, has facilitated $2 billion in health care transactions through Laidlaw & Company. When he is not working at Laidlaw, James "Jimmy" Ahern enjoys following Boston area professional sports teams, including the Red Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB).

With the 2020 MLB season suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the league has taken different approaches to provide entertainment for fans. One of how it is attempting to engage fans is through the MLB The Show 20 Players League. The esports tournament features 30 players representing their respective teams in online competition. Players play 29 three-inning games with the top eight teams advancing to the playoffs. The league will end with a best-of-five World Series.

Boston's representative is pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez. While he finished sixth in American League Cy Young voting in 2019, Rodriguez's skills don't translate to video games. He lost each of his first four games on April 10 by a combined score of 17-0. Rodriguez played against Lance McCullers Jr., Blake Snell, and Trevor May. Regardless of his performance, he will earn $5,000 for Boston area Boys & Girls Clubs via his participation. The player who wins the tournament will earn an additional $25,000 for local clubs.
