KAIRA LOORO SAFE CENTER PEACE PAVILION
praca wykonana we współpracy z Katarzyną Benedyk
Our idea for the new Peace Pavilion in Sѐdhiou is to create structure that would be multifunctional and through this will encourage people to contemplate, pay respect and spread awareness how important peace and solidarity is. We based our idea on the concept of the hurricane and its safe eye-center. The inspiration came from quotes that show the hurricane as damaging power that leave stories about heroic battle, ruins and tears. We compared this phenomenon to the armed conflicts in Africa, as they have the same consequences – they result in millions of innocent lifes lost. The pavilion follows the circular form of the hurricane and guides people into the center. There we designed sacred space, as in the eye of the hurricane – peaceful and safe zone. The round space is a symbol of the unity. The wooden construction creates relation between inside and outside and the visitor is guided through dark and meditative part of war exhibitions and then finds himself in contemplation zone shaped by the light. The opening in the roof lets the light inside and is a symbol of God, peace and unity. It is also the connection between Sacrum and the Earth as it links sky with rainwater collector in the gold center of Fibonacci Sequence. Rainwater falling in the middle suggests rebirth and a new start for cohesive society as well as commemoration of millions of the innocent victims.
