Inspiration and process work.
I was initially motivated by the band Magic City Hippies and their album Modern Animal. The ordinary object is a bottle of sunscreen, representing the summer in southern Florida that inspired the album. I used mostly pastel shades of pink, orange, blue, and yellow in a retro style to give a seventies feel with a modern twist. The title Modern Animal is in light orange, adding contrast to the yellow background. I unified the front and back covers by continuing the goopy sunscreen illustrations and the use of the object. The composition is active and flowing, representing this genre of indie-funk music and the album’s summer-pool party vibe.
