Magazine Spread Reboot

Reboot of an existing article from Outside Magazine. This project was an introduction to magazine layout design and the use of an underlying grid to create order to a body of text and images. I decided to ideate with a scientific approach that consisted of a simple yet balanced composition of images and text. The title takes up most of the first page in a bold white font in order to catch the reader’s attention and add urgency, an important factor when trying to create hierarchy. I surrounded the text on the second spread with images that I felt fitting and important to understanding the information presented. I wanted to keep the second spread equally as balanced as the first by evening out the weight of the images and amount of text on each page.
I gained experience withAdobe Indesign and its importance when making layouts that need a grid and structure. It is crucial that the underlying grid is continuous for each page in order to unify the whole spread, as well as create repetition that is easy for a reader to follow.
