Nylotipe is a laboratory of art prints, based in Naples (Italy). They commissioned me one of the illustrations making up the 2020 calendar, inspired to Saint Pio. The idea was to making them in a dry wit way, but not in a profane one. When I was starting my investigation about the Saint, I found out he had described to have been fighting against the Devil during the night, inside his cell. So, I decided to illustrate him like the main character of a beat ‘em up, eg Mortal Kombat. The Illustration was realised in red and blue, due to the two-colour printing process selected (Risograph, with soy ink, environmentally friendly).

Nilotype è un laboratorio di stampe artistiche, con sede a Napoli. Mi hanno commissionato un’illustrazione di Padre Pio per il loro calendario 2020. L’illustrazione doveva avere un tono satirico, ma non blasfemo. Facendo ricerca sul Santo, ho scoperto che più volte ha raccontato di aver combattuto con il Diavolo di notte, nella sua cella. Ho quindi immaginato Padre Pio come il protagonista di un videogame Picchiaduro, tipo Mortal Kombat. L’illustrazione è stata progettata a due colori, rosso e blu, perché poi è stata stampata in Risograph.

Un trucco che mi sento di dare è: quando progettate questo tipo di stampa mettete i livelli di photoshop in “moltiplica”
e in fase digitale potrete avere un’idea concreta di come verrà la stampa!
