The Last Puddle
This artist’s book was exhibited at the Center for Book Arts in 2018. The book was inspired by a striking, spiral animation created by climate scientist, Ed Hawkins, which went viral in 2016. With permission, I adapted select frames to present data on global temperature change as a series of expanding, concentric holes. The larger the hole, the warmer the planet. The two-sided accordion design tells two stories bound as one, in more ways than one.
I decided to publish an affordable, mini version of the storybook itself in an edition of 24, cut and assembled by hand. The story is an allegorical study of scarcity and sharing in the context of survival, and how survival, in the end, is not enough.
See how the story ends by purchasing the book! 😀 Find it here at climbingtreedesign.com
