CofC Basketball | Creative Content Packages | 2019/20

Together in this collection are creative projects done for the College of Charleston Men's and Women's Basketball teams.

The projects centered around special events and promotions to help further enhance the digital presence (and attendance) for these select games. Ancillary content was also included throughout the season to complete an all-encompassing experience on our channels.

The root of these projects was in fan engagement and the fan experience. As special events, we were able to adapt from our usual creative look in favor of more event-specific themes that included the same base elements but with an appropriate twist. These were fun projects to lead!

The following ranged from promotional graphics to t-shirt designs to score graphics packages to program covers and more! See the complete collection here:
MINI-PLANS
Ticket mini-plan sales graphics, playing off the connection/grid style to tie the two different offers together. The TD Arena court received continued use following its use for Volleyball materials, creating consistency for the arena's events when applicable.

CofC Men's Basketball achieved the highest average game attendance in the Colonial Athletic Conference for the 2019/20 season.

ROUND II
'Round II' was the name given for our game against VCU, as it was part of a home-and-home series that commenced the year before. VCU was a premium opponent visiting TD Arena and the package aimed to both draw on the success from the year before and spread excitement and awareness for the second act. The adjusted creative look was the theme throughout any designs relating to the game, and included additional promo designs adjusted from the template above.
Splash page on the CofCSports website to drive ticket sales for the game.
The designs were cut down the middle to better display the info for our fans, as the 1:1 design doesn't require as much zooming in and presents the info at a larger scale.
Photos from last year's game were used throughout the designs to further the meaning and tie together of 'Round II' for those viewing the media.
Key was making sure all of the important information and elements were placed well and unobstructed by other elements from the channel.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PROGRAM COVERS
CofC Women's Basketball had unique programs for each home game which required individualized covers. These covers highlighted different players in each installment.

The design drew from elements of the previous covers/the TD Arena court for consistency, but maintained a unique look to make them their own. This was achieved by the maroon-dominant look and adjusted layout. The bar above the CofC logo allowed for special events to be noted but also fit in as a regular element if their was none.
Some programs did serve weekends with multiple games, as noted by the covers with two games listed.
The mockups here include binding which was not present on the actual covers and are for visualization purposes only.

T-SHIRT DESIGNS
Three t-shirt designs were created for special events this year -- Maroon Out, Black Out, and Senior Day (honoring Grant Riller's record-setting career and legacy at The College).

Student section attendance
Maroon Out: 1,603 -- highest ever at a MBB game
Black Out: 926 -- over capacity
The shirts were for the student section only and helped drive attendance/fan engagement for the premium games, while also offering a deliverable that'll last beyond the game. The Maroon Out included event specifics whereas the Black Out is more evergreen.

One of my personal favorite things to see is these shirts being worn on campus after the game has been played, which happens almost daily.
It was great being able to work with vector illustrations again for the Riller shirt project! Since sponsors weren't allowed on the design, per NCAA compliance, 'GR1' was added to his jersey to fill the void of where one would be.

JERSEY WALLPAPERS
Jersey wallpapers for both the MBB and WBB channels. The designs were optimized for both iPhone 8 and X sizes (although the X-sized versions work perfect on an 8-sized device). The 8s were made for Instagram story, and included an additionally post referring users to the Xs, which were on Twitter.

The vectorized jerseys doubled in value as they were re-purposed into GIPHY stickers to enhance our channel in that regard, which can be found here.
The elements were strategically laid out on the wallpaper to allow both the phone's time/date and some notifications be displayed without the jerseys being obstructed.

BLACK OUT / WHITE OUT / PINK GAME PACKAGES
For these three games, new graphics packages were created for the specially-themed games. Although each game had a unique angle, the package was consistent between the games with adjustments made accordingly.

These were used on the team and Athletics social media channels, creating an all-encompassing experience for the special occasions -- from digital/online to the fan experience in the arena.

Included are score graphics, promotional graphics, new icons/headers, and more!
The Black Out game was the first installment of the look, and served as the basis for the following two going forward.
The graphics package stemmed from the black alternate uniform design and Black Out t-shirt, with grayscale photos to further the black out theme. Grayscale photos were also used for in-game posts. Three were chosen in effort to be different from other programs + share more of our great in-game content that gets produced. Below details where the elements drew inspiration from:
Promo graphics followed suit with the the look in the week leading up to the game, while the photos emphasized the fan experience of the event and giveaways. These served as a template for the following days' installments.
In the days leading up to the game, the team's social accounts were adjusted to include Black Out-themed branding to increase awareness of the event.
For the White Out, the creative look followed the same idea as the Black Out ones, where they drew from the uniforms themselves. In these, however, only 2 photos were used and the look utilized white-on-white elements with a drop shadow creating separation -- further driving the game's theme. The White Out package included the same array of content from score graphics to promo designs to new account branding.
Below shows where the elements drew inspiration from:
As with the Black Out package, the promo designs stemmed their look from the score graphics. The series had unique designs for each installment while staying within the standard template.
The updated team account included updated branding.

White Out attendance: 4,905 (4th highest of the season)
The CofC WBB Pink Game was the team's breast cancer awareness initiative game and called for a new graphics package for the special event. The team wore their white uniforms, so the designs were able to adapt the White Out package accordingly.
Unfortunately, the team did not have pink uniforms to coincide with the game, so that aspect was unable to be utilized for the graphics.

The team did, however, wear other pink apparel items and had pink giveaways which were reflected in the designs. In addition, rounded corners were used on the photo border to better relate those elements and the pink ribbons.
Similar to the previous installments, the promo package followed the same template plan for the series in the days leading up to the game.

The Pink Game achieved the 2nd highest WBB attendance for the 2019/20 season.

FLOSPORTS CHARLESTON DAY PROMOS

Following the cancellation of spring sports, FloSports streamed marathons of top games for CAA teams, where each school had its own day on the network. This was done twice, with MBB and WBB games being mixed in throughout each. The promos helped drive engagement for the streams, allowing fans to relive highlights from the year! Since the schedule was the key element, the designs were optimized for specific platforms so the information could be easily received.
