Five. 2015

5 is a book that narrates the story of the avant-garde fashion Japanese designers (Rei Kawakubo, Yohji Yamamoto, Issey Miyake, Junya Watanabe and Junko Koshino) in 5 different books.

These designers made a huge change and impact in the fashion industry in the 80s. ‘Abandoning’ the haute couture style and breaking the rules, they became the pioneers of the avant-garde style.
They inspired the popular Belgium group, the Antwerp 6 to take on the fashion world. Culture, education, inspiration are some of the subjects that these book talk about.
5 emphasises on fashion as experimentation and innovation.
It talks, through designers, how fashion isn’t just meant to be beautiful.
Through text, but mostly photography, this book will bring the reader closer to the 80s Japanese avant-garde fashion world.
Avant-garde fashion is described as imperfection, asymmetry, and simplicity, which is the look we gave to the books.
