New Yorkers can also check out a portion of the Appalachian Trail, which can be reached via the Metro-North Harlem line.

In addition to the various trails throughout the area, New York City hikers can explore several nearby state parks. They include Storm King State Park and Franny Reese State Park. The Fire Island National Seashore and Neversink Unique Recreation Area are two of the other great outdoor destinations located near the Big Apple.
