Occasionally my reputation precedes me and I get an commissioned work through word of mouth. That was the case with this custom made wearable art piece. A total stranger reached out and asked if I could make them a voodoo doll for their first NYC Halloween experience. I was happy to oblige. 

We discussed the details via email and I sketched out one quick (and primitive) drawing of the basic elements and details I envisioned (burlap, straw, rope, snake, heart and pins). The stranger was delighted so I dove right into pattern drafting.

This was a super fun project to work on, and I really enjoyed the outcome. I love the challenge of a one-off build. It keeps the creative spirit sharp and playful. Building for someone you’ve never laid eyes on increases the stakes, but I love these opportunities. 

I was quite happy to bring this design into being and then set it loose into the world, bringing joy to all those that encountered it.
