Initiated in 2017, Nitida is a workhorse type system designed to withstand the severe effects of different kinds of media, from print to digital. Rather than making a typographic collage of diverse historical sources, with Nitida we intended to explore the potencial of oldstyle typefaces while carefully tuning it for improved readability in contemporary editorial projects. Characterised by serifs that curve sharply to the stems, which provide elegance and crispness to the text setting, Nitida explores the idea of cleanliness, compromise and balance of white and dark spaces. The result is a cohesive set of 114 fonts that include three different widths (Normal, Narrow and Condensed), seven weights ranging from Light to Black, and versions for five optical sizes, with roman and matching italics.
