A Shoe that Fits: Origami Shoes
Origami Shoes were conceptualised and designed during my Exchange Semester at Willem de Kooning Academie, Rotterdam. The theme of the Major was Manufacturing and Production Processes and divided in two modules.
This Pair of Shoes were conceptualised and created as a part of first module, titled "IF THE SHOE FITS":
Design a Pair of Shoes.

We kickstarted the course with tearing down different kinds of shoes and getting acquainted with various techniques and processes that went into making of these different kinds of footwear (from sandals to heels to sneakers to running shoes to formal footwear) .

Deciding the Theme:
The theme was derived and fixed from the title of the module and we decided to work on Form Fitting pair of Footwear.
Using Pine Cone as form inspiration, we used Origami (paper folding techniques) and created mock ups that would capture the spiraling form.
Browsing on various origami techniques, we went forward to explore Tessellations.
These tessellations that were created were very dynamic, could conform to the shoe last and were (as we figured out later) showed 'auxetic' properties.
Creating paper patterns to make the shoe
