LP COVER
School project, class by Paul Wilson from Yellow1, 2019, deadline 3 days
The brief was to make a vinyl cover for Jan Harbeck Quartet, a Danish jazz band. I focused more on the atmosphere of the music, than the genre. I wanted to experiment and ignore the classic jazz cover conventions, which in retrospective might be confusing for the receiver, since it kind of looks like a pop album. On the other hand, I think my cover reflects the dreamy, relaxing and playful mood of the music.
I used Bodoni as the only jazzy element in my design. Everywhere the typography is an organised chaos, just like the music. To give contrast to the design, I put all text on scraps of paper, looking like it has been cut out and glued on.
Please notice, there are hints of the whale on every surface of the packaging: Above the whale hides in the clouds...
