NCSU – Think and Do the Extraordinary – Randy Woodson

Nov. 9, 2019
Dear friends:

In October 2016, we launched the most ambitious fundraising campaign in NC State’s history, outlining a goal of raising $1.6 billion by Dec. 31, 2021. The Wolfpack community responded with passion, breaking records and setting a bold course for our university’s future.

I am writing to you today with extraordinary news: Together, we have already raised $1,617,927,266 — exceeding our goal more than two years ahead of schedule.
This total is so much more than an impressive number. Our collective fundraising efforts represent the commitment of alumni, friends, faculty and staff members, parents and students who have joined together to transform NC State. The Campaign has already strengthened every corner of campus, and we will continue to see its benefits for years to come.

Since the Campaign’s launch, with your help, we have:

-Created 83 new endowed faculty positions, which allows us to recruit outstanding new faculty members and keep top talent at NC State.

-Grown our endowment by 178%.

-Broken ground on buildings that will transform how we teach, learn and conduct research, like the Plant Sciences Building and Fitts-Woolard Hall.

-Established more than 600 new scholarships and fellowships, already benefiting an additional 2,000 students — and counting.

We have much to celebrate and much to be grateful for. All along, we have said that NC State will be a different place by the close of the Campaign. We have already seen changes take root.

And we’re not done yet.

As a land-grant institution, we are committed to making a world-class NC State degree accessible for students across our state. All scholars who are accepted to this wonderful university, regardless of their financial background, should have the opportunity to complete their education here.

In this next phase of the Campaign, we are investing more in North Carolina students, especially those from rural communities, those who are the first in their families to attend college and those from groups underrepresented in higher education.

We’re keeping our promise of access, because everyone should have the opportunity to think beyond boundaries and do the extraordinary. I invite you to learn more about our plans and meet a few members of our Pack who are ready to change the world — because they were given the opportunity to do so.

Thank you for making this historic moment for NC State a reality. I’m encouraged by the incredible things we’ve accomplished, and I’m so inspired by what we can achieve for our university and its people in the next phase of this Campaign. Our land-grant mission is driving prosperity across North Carolina, our potential is extraordinary, and together, our Wolfpack community is unstoppable.

Sincerely,
Randy Woodson
